BLT Sandwiches

Introduction

There’s something incredibly satisfying about a perfectly made BLT sandwich. The combination of crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, and juicy tomatoes creates a symphony of flavors that’s hard to resist. I’ve spent years perfecting this classic sandwich, and today I’m sharing my tried-and-true method for creating the ultimate BLT. What makes this version special? It’s all in the details – from selecting the right ingredients to the assembly technique that ensures every bite is perfectly balanced.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices of thick-cut bacon
  • 4 slices of sourdough bread (or your preferred bread)
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes, sliced ¼-inch thick
  • 4 large leaves of crisp lettuce (iceberg or romaine)
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 8-10 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
  2. While the bacon cooks, slice your tomatoes and season them with a pinch of salt. This brings out their natural sweetness.
  3. Toast the bread slices until golden brown. This creates a sturdy foundation and adds a delightful crunch.
  4. Spread a generous layer of mayonnaise on one side of each piece of toast.
  5. Layer your sandwich starting with lettuce (this prevents the bread from getting soggy), followed by tomato slices, and finally the bacon.
  6. Season with fresh black pepper to taste.
  7. Cut diagonally and serve immediately.

Recipe Notes

  • For the best results, use room temperature tomatoes – never store them in the refrigerator as it affects their flavor and texture.
  • Pat your lettuce dry thoroughly after washing to prevent a soggy sandwich.
  • Want to elevate your BLT? Try adding a thin layer of ripe avocado or a fried egg.
  • If you’re cooking bacon for a crowd, use the oven method: arrange bacon on a lined baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes.
  • Always toast your bread – it provides necessary structure and prevents sogginess.
  • For extra flavor, try spreading some of the bacon drippings on your toast before adding mayonnaise.

Remember, the key to an exceptional BLT sandwich lies in using high-quality ingredients. Fresh, ripe tomatoes and premium bacon make a world of difference. Don’t rush the process – taking time to properly prepare each component will reward you with the perfect sandwich.
